My music education began like many of us with piano lessons at the age of 6. I ventured on to play clarinet in elementary school. I played clarinet, tenor sax, piano, organ, and sang in various choirs through high school. After high school, I joined the US Collegiate Wind Band and toured Europe playing concerts with them before starting college. While attending college at Butler University, I played clarinet in the Butler University Marching Band, Basketball Band and Butler’s Concert Wind Band. In 1983, I was graduated Cum Laude from Butler University with, of all things, a BS degree in Zoology. I went on to earn a DDS degree from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1987. Because of the intensity my dental school studies, my music education was put on hold. In 1989, I began to study violin with Eden Vanning Rosen. After a few years of studying with her and performing recitals as one of the few adults in her program, I joined the Bay Area Chamber Strings and began playing with adult string players. I eventually became one of their principle second violinists. In 1993, my violin playing was again put on hold when I became pregnant with our son and was too busy to devote the necessary time to practicing and performing. I continued to play piano at my church and various community locations and, as time allowed, studied piano with Jessica Siple. In 1996, I joined the OUMC Morning Bells Handbell Choir under the direction of Jackie Marschall, and I have been playing with them now for over 20 years. In 2007, I resumed (ok, pretty much started from scratch) my violin studies with Eden Vanning Rosen.

I quickly progressed and began playing violin at my church and with other small groups throughout the community. Today, I am still a student of Eden’s so that she can help me to master some of the most beautiful violin pieces ever written. In 2013, I auditioned for the Tampa Symphony and began playing with them later that season.

Last year, I was asked to become a member of the Tampa Bay Symphony Board of Directors and now serve as Vice President. My primary duty is applying for cultural grants to support our various programs. In addition to TBS, I play violin with the OUMC Cantata Orchestra, electric violin and keyboards with the “The Joy Band” Praise Band, as well as various other small instrumental groups throughout the Tampa Bay Community. In addition to music, I have been a practicing general dentist for over 30 years.
